Beeline Design: activeOshawa Recreation Guides
Following a competitive proposal process, Beeline Design & Communications was awarded a one-year contract by the City of Oshawa to design and produce the activeOshawa Recreation Guides. They are long-format digital publications featuring a large quantity of course descriptions and detailed program tables.
While I was not responsible for art direction, I played a key role in the production and technical execution of these documents. Using Adobe InDeign and Acrobat Pro, I managed the layout of complex, data-heavy pages and ensured the delivery of fully accessible PDFs optimized for web. This involved tagging, metadata editing, bookmarks, and testing for AODA compliance.
A challenging aspect of the project involved extracting and organizing course content from large, unrefined Excel files. I took initiative in interpreting, refining, and formatting the content, significantly reducing the workload that would otherwise have fallen to the City's contact person. My contributions supported both efficiency and accuracy throughout the production process.
Although the original scope included only two seasonal publications (Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer), the project expanded over the year to include:
- Fall/Winter 2024-25 Recreation Guide
- Fall Swim Supplement 2024
- Winter 2024 Activity Program
- Spring 2025 Recreation Guide
- March Break 2025 Activity Program
- Summer 2025 Recreation Guide (final issue before the City transitions to fully online registration)
This project showcases my strengths in long-document production, data layout, and collaborative problem-solving within a municipal contract setting.
